Where is the best Curry in Sheffield?

This is a question that often turns into an argument nearly as heated as the dinner/lunch/tea debate. Whether it’s a delivery, take away or a trip to an Indian restaurant, there’s so many great options in Sheffield these days, one particular restaurant has coined the phrase ‘reyt good curreh’, more on those guys later.

Urban Choola

Ok, first up it’s Urban Choola on Ecclesall Road. They’ve been serving up award winning dishes for years but they continue to evolve. At Urban Choola you get a true taste of North India cuisine, there’s Punjabi influences and a focus on dishes cooked in the tandoor.

What sets Urban Choola apart from others is that they recreate Indian street food dishes into restaurant standard plates that are unique.

Ashoka

Just down the road from Urban Choola is Ashoka, another award winner, the guys who deliver reyt good curreh’s a favourite for the Arctic Monkeys who always order in when they are in town.

They’ve been here since 1967 cooking up traditional curries and some reinventions with a Sheffield twist (Hendo’s in your curry? Yes please!). The restaurant is warm and welcoming with owner Rahul happily sharing bants with customers (pre-COVID, miss those days!).

Ranmoor Tandoori

Ranmoor Tandoori can be found on Fulwood Road and offers authentic Bangladeshi vibes from its interior to the plate and service with a splash of fine-dining. 

There’s over 100 dishes to choose from, you are in for a treat. Not only is it bring your own booze but they’ll return your empty glasses to the neighbouring pubs!

viraaj

In Woodseats you’ve the award winning Viraaj which opened in 2010, renovating a former pub, which they outside still resembles, inside is a different matter.

Not only do they offer à la carte, takeaways, regular buffet evenings, party catering, private dining and halal food, they will also happily cook up your favourite dish even if it isn’t on the menu.

Butlers Balti House

Butlers Balti

Butler’s Balti on the outskirts in the city centre offers a true taste of northern Indian, focussing on the Balti dish, which is traditionally very aromatic but not excessively spiced with chillies, served with bread, not rice and meant to be shared (pre-COVID days).
