Plot 22 Needs You - #saveourvenues
Plot 22, the multi-purpose creative space in the heart of Sheffield has now been named on the #SaveOurVenues red list. This means they are 1 of 30 venues at risk of permanent closure, and here is why we need to prevent that.
Opening in 2017, their priorities were to provide an accessible platform for underground creative culture, and to encourage the growth of new artists by experimenting, developing, and showcasing their work. Encouraging the inclusion of so-called ‘hard to reach’ groups i.e ex-offenders, addicts and vulnerable adults, was also key.
Also housing seven studio spaces and providing workshops and support sessions for its community – you can see there is so much more at risk, than just an event space.
Noise complaints forced their closure 18 months before Covid hit. Renovations to fix this issue had completed in March and they were relying on the bounce back trade in 2020. However, as with so many independents, lockdown was the final straw.
Despite all this, they have continued to be an invaluable support system, throughout the pandemic. Lending equipment to artists at home, hosting livestream gigs, supporting young people with creative activities and even helping vulnerable adults in recovery, with free music therapy sessions.
Please support this venue that helps so many by donating here.
Also keep an eye on their social media for some upcoming campaign rewards!
Spread the word and do what you can to help make sure our grassroots music venues survive this crisis.
